There are various safe and effective methods for cleaning plastic household items based on the type and material of stains. Here are some practical cleaning solutions for you:
1. Daily oil stains and ordinary stains
Baking soda paste: Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to form a paste, apply it to the stain with a soft cloth or sponge, let it sit for 10 minutes, and gently wipe it off. Suitable for plastic lunch boxes, storage boxes, etc.
Wash with detergent in warm water: Add neutral detergent to warm water and use a soft sponge to scrub, suitable for large-scale cleaning such as refrigerator drawers and plastic cutting boards.
2. Yellowing or oxidation discoloration
Sodium bicarbonate+white vinegar: equal amounts of sodium bicarbonate and white vinegar are mixed into a foam solution, which can be smeared or soaked in yellowing parts (such as plastic basins and toys) for 1 hour and then scrubbed to effectively remove yellow stains.
Lemon Juice+Salt: The fruit acid in lemon juice, combined with the friction of salt, can be used to scrub yellowed lunch boxes and remote control casings, breaking down the oxide layer and restoring transparency.
Toothpaste wiping: Squeeze fluoride toothpaste onto a soft cloth, circle and polish the yellowed areas, suitable for small areas such as cup mouth and keyboard.
3. Stubborn dirt and scale
White vinegar soaking: Mix white vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio, soak plastic products for half an hour, especially suitable for removing calcified scale from water dispensers, sinks, and plastic bottles in bathrooms.
Lemon juice dissolution: Pour lemon juice into a plastic water bottle and let it sit for 10-20 minutes to decompose mineral deposits and slightly discolor.
4. Adhesive stains and sticker residue
Alcohol wiping: Use 75% medical alcohol cotton pads to repeatedly wipe the adhesive marks. Alcohol can quickly dissolve the adhesive and evaporate without residue. Be careful not to use it on fragile plastics.
5. Cleaning of children's toys (safety priority)
Plastic/rubber toys: Use baby specific bottle cleaner and soak in warm water for 10 minutes. Use a soft brush to clean the gaps, rinse with water, and then air dry.
Electronic toys: Use alcohol swabs or disinfectant wipes to wipe the surface to avoid water damage to internal components.
⚠️ Cleaning precautions
Prohibit the use of steel wire balls: they will scratch the surface and make it more difficult to clean dirt and grime.
Avoid direct immersion in 84 disinfectant: it is highly corrosive and can easily cause plastic to turn yellow and brittle. It is recommended to dilute it and use it briefly before thoroughly rinsing.
Do not expose to direct sunlight: Although ultraviolet radiation can kill bacteria, long-term exposure can accelerate aging and yellowing.
Distinguishing materials: PET material is not resistant to alcohol, while PP plastic can withstand high-temperature steam treatment.
